Scripture: John 13: 1-15
Verse for Today: "Set an example for the believers
in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity! (1 Timothy 4:12)
We all need a role model. Jesus is the best role model we can find.
He set high standards for humanity to follow.
The following story contains a lesson for all of us to follow. A newly hired salesman stunned his
superiors with his first written report, for it clearly revealed that he was nearly illiterate. He wrote: "I seen this
outfit ain't never bought a dimes worth of nothin from us so I sold them some goods. I am now going to Chicawgo." But
before they could fire him for not fitting into the organization, a second letter arrived. "I came to Chicawgo an sole
them all a millyon."
Hesitant
to dismiss the man, yet afraid of what would happen if he didn't, the manager gave the two reports to the president of the
company. The next day, the staff was amazed to see the two reports on the bulletin board with a memo from the president:
"We ben spendin too much time tryin
to spel and not enuff time tryin to sel. I want everyone should read these letters from Gooch, who is doin a grate job, and
you should all go out and DO LIKE HE DONE!!!"
Certainly God expects our best, but sometimes we get so preoccupied with appearances, orientations
and stereotypes that we lose sight of our primary purpose.
The disciples were surprised to say the least when Jesus girded himself and washed
their feet. He was teaching them about doing what is right and to do it for everyone, not just those that society gives an
approving nod to. Time is passing by and our best is in need of being done today.
Jesus, the more we learn of you, the more we learn of ourselves and
our prejudices. May we realize how important it is for us to see you as the role model for our life. May we learn that everyone
person is deserving of having their feet washed and in so learning, may we gird ourselves to follow what you have taught us
to do.
