Update
from the World OutGames and Conference
Over 6500 people from 80 countries participated in the OutGames events
in Copenhagen. Because there were only three workshops on religion, Rev. Dr. Jonipher Kwong
recommended that there be a religion/spirituality track in 2013 in Antwerp, Belgium. Rev. Kwong and Rev.
Jide Macaulay presented to 30 people, representing the MCC/Christian perspective. The other panelists offered the
Muslim side from a secular perspective. They distributed brochures on the Asian Pacific Initiative and MCC generally
and answered questions about MCC's global ministry. The two had several revelations during the conference.
One was about the crucial role that media and technology plays in transmitting our message. Parvez
Sharma, the Indian American director of Jihad for Love, said that religion is the final frontier. Rev. Kwong said, "The second lesson I learned is to just go with the flow and see what opportunities
arise. We were invited to be a part of the Copenhagen Catalogue of Best Practices. There were only 24 entries
selected and my article, ' MCC. The Human Rights Church in Asia and the Pacific', was the first one in this
official document published by the Danish government. All participants in OutGames received got a copy. This is the best
advertisement we could ask for - free of charge!" MCCers in attendance included Rev. Sharon Ferguson from MCC
North London (England) and Rev. Macaulay, as well as those sent by MCC, Rev. Dr. Kwong and staff member Angel
Collie. |
